From the meeting to the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the deportations, Dagmar Lieblová
On 16th October 2011, at 70th anniversary of the beginning of Jewish deportations from the Czech lands, a meeting of former Terezin ghetto inmates was held. The event was organized by the Terezin Memorial in cooperation with the Terezin Initiative, an association of former Terezin ghetto inmates. It was patronized by Minister of Culture Jiri Besser.
The introductory part took place in the House of Culture at Terezin, where Mr. Jan Munk, Director of Terezin Memorial, delivered his welcome speech in front of almost 200 participants. He was followed by a musical performance of Jiri Hosek and Dominika Weiss-Hoskova, a son and a granddaughter of one of the survivors. In the next part, first Mrs. Dagmar Lieblova, Chairwoman of Terezin Initiative took the floor, followed by Mrs. Ruzena Cechova, Mayor of Terezin. The last speaker for the Ministry of Culture was Frantisek Mikes, First Deputy Minister. The programme then continued with the presentation of children’s opera Brundibar, rehearsed by the ghetto children during the occupation and performed for dozens of times. Its protagonists were then small children, some of whom were present at the meeting, and so, at the end of the performance of Disman’s Radio Children’s Ensemble several of them joined the children on the stage and sang the memorable final opera song together with the today’s young singers.
The programme continued in the afternoon in the attic theatre of the Magdeburg barracks with the performance Shoah produced by Svandovo Theatre in Prague, and was completed in the cinema hall of the Ghetto Museum with the première of the animated art documentary by M. Zverina – Helga-L520.
