Cooperation in education between the State Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau and the Terezin Memorial has been on for more than 10 years. Polish historians and lecturers regularly come to the seminars in Terezin, where they lecture and lead workshops (a group of Polish teachers visited the Monument for a three-day programme in June 2013), and every two years a group of Czech teachers, graduates of educational seminars I and II focused on teaching about the Holocaust, attend a seminar in the State Museum of Auschwitz-Birkenau in Poland. Seminars III are run thanks to the collaboration of the Terezin Memorial with the Czech Ministry of Education, which supports them financially.
This year’s workshop was held in the term: October 3 – 6, 2013.. The educational programme was divided into two days. Participants had the opportunity to become familiar with the International Centre for Education about Auschwitz and the Holocaust, with methods and approaches to teaching on this memorable spot; they further completed tours Auschwitz I and Auschwitz II, took a lecture on the crematorium and gas chambers, and looked into the art collections and museum archives. They were offered guided tours in block 27 housing a new Israeli exposition Shoa, and in block 13 dedicated to the genocide of European Sinti and Roma.
