Announcement of the winners of the Terezín Memorial´s art competitions – Hana Greenfield Memorial

December 6, 2019 by admin

The winners of the Terezín Memorial´s 25th literary competition and the 23rd arts contest, named after their initiator, co-founder and sponsor, the Hana Greenfield Memorial competitions, this time held under the joint title I Am Here Without My Family, were announced in the cinema of the Ghetto Museum in Terezín on June 5, 2019. The motto of this year´s competitions, held by the Terezín Memorial, encapsulates the situation of many children who lost their parents (just like their contemporaries in the wartime Terezín Ghetto or during wars in general) and who try to cope with their plight, furthermore under unnatural conditions.

All in all, 721 entries from as many as 1,155 schools from all over the Czech Republic were sent in to the competition in the school year 2018/2019. A total of 156 entries competed in the literary contest, 565 works in the arts competition. You can find the list of winners and awarded entries on the web pages of the Terezín Memorial in the section Vzdělávání (Education).

Mrs. Doris Grozdanovičová addressed the winners on behalf of the association of the former Terezín Ghetto inmates, known as the Terezín Initiative. Representing the same institution was also Michaela Vidláková, who – together with Jiří Polák, son of Erik Polák, a former prisoner of the Terezín Ghetto and historian of the Terezín Memorial – presented to the winners the Erik Polák Awards, already traditionally presented to the young talented artists by the Terezin Iniciative.
