After a two-year break caused by the Covid-19 epidemic, the second-tier seminar for Czech schoolteachers Holocaust in Education was again held in 2022, proceeding between November 24 and 27. The seminar, traditionally organized by the Terezín Memorial in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, was attended by 38 teachers.
Its program featured lectures and workshops delivered and supervised by experts on the given topics. Thanks to the lectures attendees learnt plenty of new facts and generally advanced their knowledge of Shoah history; for their part, the workshops offered an opportunity to get acquainted with the methods of Holocaust education viewed from different angles, become directly involved in various educational procedures and approaches and personally try them out. The seminars were led by lecturers from the memorial Yad Vashem (Israel), the Memorial and Museum Auschwitz-Birkenau in Oświęcim (Poland), from the Anna Frank House (Netherlands), from the organization Open Eye (Czech Republic) – a service organization of the USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education, from the Institute of History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Slovakia), the Jewish Museum in Prague (Czech Republic), from the organization People in Need (Czech Republic) and naturally also coming from the Terezín Memorial (Czech Republic).
The attending schoolteachers also enjoyed interesting cultural evening programs, such as the screening of Alfred Radok´s movie Daleká cesta (A Long Journey) shot in 1948, Jaroslav Achab Haidler´s theater performance Pan Theodor Mundstock, and the staging of the children´s opera Brundibár performed by the children´s ensemble Disman-ČÁRY-um and the pianist Michal Macourek.
