To accompany the exhibition Childhood under the Swastika, currently on display at the National Pedagogical Museum and J. A. Comenius Library in Prague, staff of the Terezín Memorial’s Department of Education have prepared an educational program intended for lower- and upper-secondary school students.
The educational course lasts approximately three hours and includes a workshop followed by a peer-to-peer tour of the exhibition. In the Ghetto through the Eyes of Children workshop, lower-secondary school pupils engage with youth magazines that were produced in the Terezín Ghetto between 1941 and 1945. Upper-secondary students can participate in the workshop titled Being a Pupil or a Student in the Protectorate, where they learn about the wartime Roudnice Students case. This involved several dozen secondary-school students from Roudnice who were imprisoned in the Small Fortress in Terezín after the assassination of Acting Reich Protector Reinhard Heydrich in May 1942.
In addition to attending one of the workshops, participants will also engage in a peer-to-peer tour of the short-term exhibition titled Childhood under the Swastika. During this tour, they will work in groups, following instructions provided in worksheets, to explore specific topics presented in the exhibition. They will then share their findings with other participants.
We are very pleased with our ongoing collaboration with the National Pedagogical Museum and J. A. Comenius Library. Following mutual agreement, we will offer additional dates for these educational programs in autumn 2026. They are held only in Czech language.
