In April, on the day when the world remembers the start of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising (19 April 1943), is the Holocaust Remembrance Day – Yom HaShoah. This day is annually commemorated by the Terezín Memorial as well. Each year, the names of those who died directly in the Terezín ghetto during World War II are read out. 100 names are read out each year.
This year, the Holocaust Day took place on 12 April in the yard of the Jewish prayer room from the days of the ghetto in Dlouhá street No. 17. The remembrance ceremony was attended by representatives of the Israel embassy in the Czech Republic, the Jewish community of Prague, Teplice and Ústí nad Labem, survivors and many other guests. The names of hundreds of Holocaust victims from two transports from Prague and Třebíč were read out by two women who survived Terezín and the Holocaust – Dagmar Lieblová and Eva Merová. The reading was followed by a prayer recited by the head rabbi of Prague and the Czech Republic, Karol Efraim Sidon.
